Take Photos and Personal Videos

You can use the camera on your Fire tablet to take photos and record video. Photos and videos taken with the camera can be automatically stored in Amazon Drive.

Automatic photo and video uploads count towards your total Amazon Drive storage. To upload photos and videos to your Amazon Drive automatically:

  • From the Home screen, tap Photos.
  • Tap More.
  • Tap Turn on, next to the auto-save status message at the top of the screen.
Photos taken with eligible Fire tablets get free, unlimited storage on your Amazon Drive account

Tip: When you take a picture or record a video, make sure the camera is clean and free of any obstructions, and keep the device steady to avoid motion blur.

To open the camera, tap Photos from the Home screen, and then tap the Camera icon.

Note: Not all Fire tablets have a Camera.

Switch to Camera mode or Video mode.

Note: This icon only appears on Kindle Fire HDX (3rd Generation) devices.

For devices that have a rear camera with a camera flash, turn the camera flash On, Off or set to Auto.

For devices that have multiple cameras, tap to switch between the rear-facing and front-facing camera.

Tap to access the camera settings. From here, control settings for HDR, Image Review and panorama.

Image Review - Turn on Image Review to show a preview of the image captured after taking a photo. Tap the check mark to save or the X to delete.

HDR - The High Dynamic Range (HDR) setting captures multiple images at different exposures and combines them into a single photo that properly exposes the bright and dark regions in one shot. HDR is only available for devices that have a rear-facing camera.

Tip: When a scene would benefit from HDR, you will see HDR Recommended show up on the camera viewfinder. Tap the notification to turn on HDR; tap again to turn it off.

Panorama - Capture a long photo, either vertically or horizontally. Tap the capture icon and move slowly in the direction you would like to capture the elongated photo, or use the arrow in the preview strip to capture images in a straight line. Panorama is only available for devices that have a rear-facing camera.

Take a picture. Tap the screen to focus on a specific location. To zoom in and out, press the volume buttons on your device, or pinch the screen with two fingers.

Tip: Press and hold the shutter to capture a stack of photos. A counter of the number of images captured will show up next to the shutter button.

Record a video. A counter will appear showing the time of the recorded video. To zoom in and out, press the volume buttons on your device, or pinch the screen with two fingers while recording. Tap the button again to stop recording.

To capture pictures while recording a video, tap the shutter icon that appears on the left edge of the screen while video recording is in progress. Tap the screen to focus on a specific location while recording a video.

Share or e-mail your photo or video.
