Set a Lock Screen Password or PIN on Kindle Fire (3rd Generation) Devices

To prevent unauthorized access to your Fire tablet, create a lock screen password or PIN.

When you wake your Fire tablet from sleep mode or turn it on, the lock screen appears. Your lock screen displays the current time, date, and any active incoming notifications. If you have multiple household profiles on your device, you can tap your profile icon to switch profiles.

On the lock screen, swipe down from the top of the screen to view recent notifications. You can configure your Fire tablet so that you will be prompted to enter your lock screen password or PIN when you select a notification or slide to unlock the screen.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and then tap Settings.
  2. Tap Security & Privacy.
  3. Next to Lock Screen Password, tap On. You can create a Simple Numeric PIN, or create a more secure password with a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters. Complex passwords with a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters provide more security and make it more difficult for unauthorized users to gain access to your Fire tablet.
